The Three Levels of Advocacy
On the local level, MAAR works with city councils and county commissioners to protect the industry through items such as signage regulations, short-term rentals, quality of life ordinances, impact or occupational fees, city taxes and much more.
On the state level, the Alabama Association of REALTORS®, works toward keeping the industry vibrant through items such as down payment assistance, holding back sales tax on services, historic tax credits and savings programs.
On the national level, NAR’s efforts are undeniable. If you sold real estate during the pandemic, you can thank NAR who worked tirelessly to have real estate agents declared essential workers, lobbied for the paycheck protection program, and so much more for both commercial and residential REALTORS®. Each year NAR adopts a legislative agenda covering numerous legislative initiatives impacting the industry.
